Catching up
My army daughter has requested that the family send her flannel pj's. Apparently the hot Iraqi days fade into cool nights. Of course she is rather cold-natured and sleeps under tons of blankets on nights when a sheet is enough for me, but...
I talked to my granddaughter. She told me she is reading Casper and loves Dr. Seuss. She also told me she is writing sentences and paragraphs and that the stories she writes are not true. My 2nd grader is a fiction-writer! My grandson and I have deal: He will recognize that his imaginative stories are not lies but that he is in training to be an author. He should be writing in paragraphs soon. He makes pretty good sentences now.
I have been reading while caring for a sick relative: reading We Few and On Basilisk Station, both by D. Weber, the Liaden Universe novels by Lee and Miller, Caliban and the BSI stories by R. M. Allen, and more. Some of these I had already read and reread numerous times, but reading favorite parts sucked me into reading the books again. I am now a fan of Sandra McDonald, Tanya Huff and others for their military SF. I also discovered the novels that are a crossover of romance and science fiction--and billed as such. Fun.
How many of you have read the new online novels of Lee and Miller that tell the story of Theo Waitley, Val Con's half-sister? Link to them from korval.com or google Liaden Universe.
Life is busy now with family concerns and such. I will try to write more later. Thanks for all who remarked on my daughter in Iraq and thanks for your good wishes.
