Doctor Mirra walked over to the sounds. He turned the corner and found nurse Barea crying. She looked up at him, her mouth quivered, it was obvious she had beenupset about something important.
"I don't want to bother you with this sir," Barea she said at the silent Doctor and began to leave.
Doctor Mirra never liked being called sir, and when she did this he knew something was wrong. He put his hand gently on her sholder, "It's alright, tell me what's a matter." he said in a calm smoothing voice to her.
She sat down in a near by chair, Mirra followed her and sat down.
Barea sat motionless for a miniute, gathering her thoughts, then spoke, "I told my parents about," she hesitated not knowing how to phrase the next part, "my relationship with Lindsey"
Doctor Mirra was confused, he knew Lt.Lindsey Schultz and he didn't see what this had to do with Nurse Bareas parents. His face distored into a look of confuseuion. Barea saw this look and decided to clear the confusion.
"We're lovers," she bluntly said to the Doctor.
It all made since to Mirra Maltox. He never tried to pry much into his fellow crew members lives, but he did notice that Nurse Barea and LT.Schultz spend a lot of time together. His only reaction was a mumur of "um hum"
There was a stillness between the two officers, Barea was nervous, Doctor Mirra like her, was Bajoran. Amongst diffrent groups on Bajor her confessing to her love affair may not have been seen with a open heart. She knew that Mirra could make a scene when he was upset.
Finally Doctor spoke, "And all that was old shall be swept aside for the golden age" he quoted a religous text from the colony of Basiley.
Barea was now the one confussed she was wondering what the Doctor was saying. Mirra liked this, he had been doing his best to try to teach this young woman the philosphies he had embraced, so now maybe she would be more receptive.
"That was the begining of the third chapter of the prophises of Fer' aka," doctor Mirra told the confused nurse.
"So" Mirra began asking " When you were a child how often did your parents take you to temple?"
"Every time they could, I supose" Barea answered and continued "It was the same temple Kia Winns sect preached out of"
It all made since to Doctor Mirra now, he had to deal with this sect so many times he got tired of even thinking about them. Many of the followers of this group had quietly spread hate and distrust amongst Bajor. Doctor Mirra had even gone to blows against the more militant followers of this group, when they called out for the death of the people of Basily.
"Belive me I know how hard it is to deal with people from that group," Mirra replied.
Barea sighed not knowing what to do next, then the Doctor Mirra asked a question
"Have you ever been to a religous service on Baisley?"
Nurse Barea looked at the Doctor, it hadn't been that long since the temples on Basily were finaly reconized by the Vedick assembily as being anything more than a cult.
"No I have never been to a service there, how are they?" she responded with a question
Doctor Mirra smiled, "They are very nice, anyone is welcome to services with the universalist, the prophets teachings are what we go by not the Vedick assembilies."
This actually comforted Barea , the love of the Prophets with a open minded group. Maybe it was time to viist Basely
