Commander Mirra sat at the controls of the runabout. Her daughter, Carrie, was running around the small ship. The commander could tell that the child was getting in the way of LT.Shultz.
"Tumauk!" Mirra said in a firm voice. This got the misbehaving childs attenion.
Commander Mirra Treasa looked down at her child and spoke, "Go in the back of the ship and play with your brother."
The child looked defiantly at her mother, "Hes sleepin, theres nothing to do back there" she said in Klingon
"LT.", Mirra said looking over at the second officer, "Please take over while I handle this"
Lt. Shultz nodded as the Commander took her daughter to the back of the ship.
There was sounds in Klingon as Commander Mirra scoulded her daughter for mouthing off at her.
Soon Mirra came back alone.
"I'm sorry about that," Commander Mirra apologized, "Just recently Carrie has become as hard headed as her father." the Commander sighed then continued, "I just wished she would stop getting into trouble."
The LT. smiled. She didn't have any children, and sometimes never thought she would. After this little episode she figured she might not have the patience for them.
"i'm curious about one thing" the LT. asked, "if it's not to prying, why does your daughter always speak in Klingonese?"
Commander Mirra looked over at Lt.Shultz. Mirra had seen this confusuion the whole trip. Many of her own relatives asked the same question. In a way she could see how a Bajoran child, always insisting on speaking in Klingon would draw questions.
Commander Mirra decided to answer the question, "Well as you may know my husband is a member of a Klingon house." Mirra said calmly.
The younger LT. nodded
" Well, after Carrie was born we lived on Kronos. My husband and the women of the house use to hover above Carrie all the time. In fact her first words were in Klingon."
The Commander shruged "So she picked up Klingon first."
LT.Shultz asked "Doesn't that bother you?"
Commander Mirra responded, "Well it could be worse, she could speak in that tounge her father has. Bajoran and Cardassian mixed together, with all the slang from the Desert regions of Bajor." the commander shook her head "To be honest I'm amazed he got through medical school.
The Commander chuckled to herself. "We should be home in about a half an hour, so lets hope both of the children stay in the back until we get there."
The LT. responded "Agreed"
